The Ultimate Guide to Finding the Perfect Fit for Your Dress Shirt.

How to find your perfect fit for your collarless dress shirt

Finding the perfect dress shirt can be a daunting process. When you’re in this situation, it’s important to know your body type and what will work for you. The right dress shirt can make all the difference in how well you look, so it’s important to consider these factors when shopping for that perfect shirt.

There are different types of dress shirts, after all, and not all of them are created equal. You need to know which type of dress shirt is best for where you work and how often you expect to wear it. It is also important to have a sense of your fashion style before choosing the perfect dress shirt. Lastly, each company has a different sizing structure which can be scary.  Here are some simple steps on how to find the perfect fit for your perfect shirt.

The perfect shirt for your fashion style.

Your perfect dress shirt needs to be functional for your profession, but it shouldn’t be all about that. If you work in a workplace where a dress shirt with a larger collar, relaxed fit, and open cuff will be very appropriate, then go for it. If not, it’s better not to compromise on your style. This could be a mandarin collared shirt or  a tapered collarless dress shirt. If you are on the heavier side, find shirts that are made from a more natural fabric, like linen. Not only will this take away some weight off your shoulders, but it will also help you look more polished. If you are on the slimmer side, find a shirt that will highlight your best features. Most brands don’t cover all of the sizing so it’s important to find brands that have sizing that matches your needs. At Cheegs we have two fits (classic and slim) but both of them are fairly athletic fits.

What to look for when finding your size for men’s dress shirts.

First, look at the male models in the product images and determine if the sizing matches your body type. If so, follow the size guide that should always be provided on the product page. These can look complicated but usually they are fairly easy to understand. Most smaller brands like Cheegs will always give you a comparison to some of the big brands and tell you what size to pick according to that. This should always be the first step if the sizing is not completely custom made for you. Then if that is not clear for you then you can look at the measurements.

How to measure a dress shirt?

This can be done by a family member or partner in less than a minute. Here are some instructions for you.

Neck: Place your hand on your hip. Have someone measure from the center back of your neck along your shoulder and elbow to your wrist. If you do not have someone to help you, take a shirt that fits well in the sleeve and measure it in the same way.

Chest: Measure your chest around the widest part of your chest and back, typically 1” below your armpits. Take a breath in to make sure you have room and the shirt is not too constricting.

Waist: This will be different from the waist measurement you use to buy pants. Stand naturally in a relaxed position and measure around your waist at your belly button.

REMEMBER: If you prefer a loose fitting shirt, add the amount of space you want to your measurements before looking to the sizing guides.
